Description of content: Japan has suspended the importation of host plants and plant parts (including fruit, flower and pollen, other than seed) of E. amylovora listed in the annex from the Republic of Korea where the outbreak of E. amylovora was reported on 29 May 2015.

Nature of the urgent problem(s) and reason for urgent action: E. amylovora is a bacterium that can infect a wide range of plant species and its infection causes serious damage. The bacterium is not known to occur in Japan. Recently the outbreak of the bacterium is reported from the Republic of Korea. The reason for the urgent action is to prevent the introduction of the bacterium into Japan from the country.
