Description of content: Following the current outbreak of HPAI sub-type H5N8 and H5N2 in the United States of America (USA), the Indonesian Government is taking urgent measures to prohibit importation of live poultry and poultry products from the USA into the territory of the Republic of Indonesia which might be carriers of HPAI H5N8 and H5N2 that does not exist in Indonesia.

This prohibition is based on the risk assessment on the importation of several live poultry and poultry products from the USA, and refers to the OIE-WAHID report. The prohibited commodities are day-old chickens (DOC), all kinds of live poultry, fresh poultry products, except SPF egg and Hatching Egg (HE).

This prohibition applies to live poultry and poultry products dispatched after 16 December 2014.

Nature of the urgent problem(s) and reason for urgent action: Due to the risk of the transmission of the HPAI sub-type H5N8 and H5N2 agent to animals and humans through infected live poultry and poultry products, the Government of Indonesia has imposed prohibition on the importation of live poultry and poultry products from the USA. This emergency action is necessary to prevent the introduction of HPAI sub-type H5N8 and H5N2 that does not exist in Indonesia.
